Care Philosophy

My patient care philosophy is rooted in patient-centered care, where each person's values, goals and lived experience guide the plan of care. I believe the best outcomes come from mutual decision-making, with patients and clinicians working together as partners to choose the path that fits the patient best.

The provider didn't seem to care that I was even there. Every other provider i have seen at least gives the appearance of giving a damn about my particular situation. He spoke in a condescending manner & even downplayed my pain as "it probably isn't that bad" and "this stenosis might cause some pain". I would gladly trade places with him for even an hour. I bet he would change his smug attitude. I hope I never have to see him again. I will do whatever it takes not to. It's been all I can do to write this without spewing profanity. He completely ruined my day & I still feel worse about my situation.

Nolan took the time to listen to my concerns as I described my nerve pain experience. He outlined the course of action (required by my insurance plan) if I needed further diagnostic treatment in the future. He demonstrated command of the medical conditions associated with my nerve pain experience, and provided at-home suggestive remedies to utilize before reconsidering further diagnostic care.

I would have liked to have demonstrations of exactly how to do the exercises rather than only written descriptions. I would have liked explanations of how each exercise would help my pain, but maybe that's more the function of PT. I don't really know the function of the PM & R department and maybe expected something different. I did receive a good explanation of my recent hip/spine x-ray and was happy to receive a diagnosis and assurance that the exercises I was already doing wouldn't increase the pain. Some of the exercises I was given are different from what I had before in PT, and I think they're going to help. This is not a criticism of Nolan but the system itself: the notes attached to my visit seem for the most part very generic and boilerplate--almost as if written by AI. Many things were noted that weren't discussed at the appointment, for example a long list of pain killers, analgesic creams, etc.
